The attraction, of course, is the Atlantic Ocean, but there are
other reasons so many campers spend their fun time in the Seacoast Region of New
Hampshire. The state has only about 18 miles of seashore but the beaches are spacious and
attractive. They are where folks congregate on hot summer days.
The stretches of sandy shore are the magnet that brings visitors to the region but
there is so much more to do that folks who come often spend the whole summer here. Indeed
there are campgrounds in the Seacoast Region that are strictly for seasonals. There are
still plenty of places for the traveling camper. However, we suggest you make
reservations.
Portsmouth, the attractive old-fashioned city that is the hub of this area is a place
of historic homes, beautiful parks, and a variety of museums and amusements. It's a city
where you can relax at a sidewalk café or walk streets that are still paved with brick.
Narrow lanes lead down to a port area midst tugboats and small gourmet restaurants. Then
there is Strawberry Banke, an historic recreation of how life was in the colonial days.
Hampton Beach is not only for sunbathers and swimmers. It's a place to go for a variety
of fun from theaters and night clubs to amusements rides and specialty shops.
You can book a cruise of the harbor on a ship offering narrated tours, or you can go on
a whale watch. There's a science center and a place to enjoy seashore nature at Odiorne
Point State Park. You can shop at a variety of malls, some with factory outlets stores.
Explore the shops and the homes in the historic small towns such as Exeter, Durham and
Newcastle. Go inside a small submarine at Albacore Park. Take a mini trolley ride around
the region to get acquainted.
Spend some time enjoying the beauty of the flowers in Prescott Park or at Fuller
Gardens. The pace is slower than in more metropolitan places in the state. Take time to
walk the streets and pathways or just go bicycling for a day.
You have probably heard it said that campers come earlier and stay longer at the
Seacoast then elsewhere in the state. It's a region that is easy to love, a place most
folks are reluctant to leave.
