Lakes Region

A four-season vacation spot surrounded by pristine waterways, majestic mountains, and quaint resort towns; the Lakes Region is the picture-perfect destination.

With over 273 lakes and ponds, the Lakes Region is a great place to spend your next camping trip. Picturesque New England towns with unique shops, museums, restaurants, and water activities fill your day with a countless number of things to enjoy.

The Lakes Region area is home to the largest lake in the state, Lake Winnipesaukee, which encompasses 72 square miles with 200 miles of shoreline and 274 islands. Joining Lake “Winni” are other bodies of water that give visiting campers an abundance of places to explore. These include Squam Lake, Winnisquam Lake, Newfound Lake, and Lake Wentworth just to name a few, where water enthusiasts enjoy swimming, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, and waterskiing. Visitors that don’t own their own boat can rent one for a day or two at the local marinas lining the shores.

Many of the nearby lakes have boat cruises such as the M/S Mount Washington, the Winni Belle, and even a Tiki Hut boat cruise! Along with the wealth of lakes, rivers, and ponds, the Lakes Region is home to many beautiful mountains big and small. Visitors of all ages and abilities can explore hiking, biking and walking trails for any skill levels. Spend a day hiking through the trails at the Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough or a couple of hours biking down the Cotton Valley rail trail from Wolfeboro to Wakefield. Take in the beautiful views atop Red Hill in Center Harbor or just go for a leisure walk through the nature trails at Squam Lake Science Center.

Even if you are not an outdoor enthusiast, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy in the Lakes Region. There is an abundance of museums, farms, shops, and restaurants that will fill your day with excitement. Visit the Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm in Tamworth or take in the history of the World War II at the Wright Museum in Wolfeboro. Stop at a Farmer’s Market in Sandwich or go apple picking an orchard in Milton. However you choose to spend your day, you will not be disappointed in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
